Amazon is officially discontinuing its Freevee service, which offered viewers a no-cost, ad-supported option for video on demand. Initially launched as IMDb Freedive in January 2019, this platform featured a range of original programming alongside a selection of titles from the expansive Prime Video library. Over the next few weeks, Freevee will be gradually phased out, and its rich content catalog will transition to Prime Video. For those interested in ad-supported viewing options, this feature is included with an Amazon Prime membership, priced at $15 per month.
According to an Amazon spokesperson, “To deliver a simpler viewing experience for customers, we have decided to phase out Freevee branding.” They emphasized that Prime members will not experience any disruption in content access. Furthermore, a vast selection of free streaming content will remain available to non-Prime members. This includes select original series from Amazon MGM Studios, an array of licensed movies and shows, and a diverse library of FAST channels, all conveniently accessible on Prime Video.
Throughout its existence, the free viewing platform underwent multiple rebrands, culminating in its final iteration as Freevee in April 2022. This evolution reflects Amazon’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its streaming offerings. The transition away from Freevee is part of a broader strategy to streamline services and provide a more cohesive viewing experience for users across the platform.
