We’ve identified for just a few years now that Disney was cooking up a live-action remake of Lilo & Sew, and it’s at all times been a query of how they’d deal with our titular Experiment 626. Would he be CG or some hybrid between that and a puppet? Would he look good? The reply to that second query is…truly type of sure?

Throughout final night time’s D23 panel, Disney unveiled the primary have a look at Sew for the live-action remake. In CG, he undoubtedly appears like a one-to-one translation of the character, and it additionally helps that he’s voiced by his unique actor, Chris Sanders. Given how a lot of a nightmare Disney’s VFX-heavy films can typically be, it’s a strong effort, and it makes you marvel about how the opposite CG characters like Jumbaa and Pleakley are going to look every time we get a have a look at them.
If you happen to haven’t seen the unique 2005 film, Lilo & Sew targeted on a younger Hawaiian lady (performed in live-action by Maia Kealoha) nonetheless reeling from the loss of life of her dad and mom and the potential for being taken away from her youthful sister Nami (Sydney Agudong). Lilo needs for a buddy and that manifests within the type of Sew, a not too long ago created alien on the run from the house police. Considering that he’s a barely bizarre canine, Lilo adopts him and the pair go on adventures. The primary film was very cute and led to a franchise with a straight-to-DVD sequel, a derivative present with a catchy theme track, and a well-remembered net recreation. (And in addition just a few appearances throughout Kingdom Hearts video games.)
If you happen to like what you see, excellent news: the Lilo & Sew remake is formally hitting theaters someday in summer season 2025. Can’t wait to see what this model of Sew appears like in a complete film.
