Meta has introduced an exciting array of video creation features for its Edits application. This update also includes a new method for creating Reels by referencing another clip.
To start, Edits now offers several enhancements such as clickable audio links, insights into trending topics within a creator’s audience, and the capacity to craft custom kits for various style combinations.

Audio links empower Reels creators to embed links to specific songs and sounds, allowing viewers to listen with a simple tap.
Trending topics will give Reels creators enhanced understanding of what captivates their audience. this feature is currently available only to creators with over 10,000 followers. Simultaneously, the Kits feature allows creators to save particular visual style elements into a designated group, enabling easy access to specific styles whenever desired.
Edits is also expanding its toolkit with more visual effects, offering creators greater creative flexibility.
In the main Instagram application, Meta has introduced a new feature that enables Reels creators to reference another clip while creating their content..

As illustrated in the example screens, this new feature allows creators to overlay another Reel on their composer view. This ensures that their response clip aligns seamlessly with the original.
According to Instagram: “Open a Reel that’s shorter than 90 seconds, tap the three-dot menu, and select ‘Use as reference.’ The Reel opens in a small window in your camera, allowing you to view it multiple times before recording.”
Creators can reposition the player within the composer screen and pause playback at any moment.
This feature also includes a countdown timer, simplifying synchronization with the original clip.
This could be a valuable tool for response videos, facilitating creators in sharing their unique perspectives or reactions to the specific content of the original video.
The feature is currently exclusive to the iOS version of the app.
Lastly, Instagram has announced the removal of the option to link Reels in a series.
As noted by creator economy expert Lia Haberman, this change aims to simplify the Reels experience. The new policy will take effect starting Oct. 28.
Instagram introduced Reels linking in August 2025 to assist creators in constructing a series of interconnected Reels clips, thereby enhancing viewer engagement.

Instagram has been exploring fresh avenues for long-form content. The elimination of Reels linking might represent another stride toward creating a more effective system for sharing extended viewing experiences, rather than directing users through a sequence of Reels clips.
