Jim Thornton from ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Makes Appearance in Pre-Taped Episode During Ongoing Investigation

9:45 PM PT — Jim Thornton‘s attorney has informed TMZ that the announcer “did not participate in any illegal activities, was not taken into custody, and has not been charged with a crime. After receiving a complaint from another passenger on the flight, law enforcement spoke with him for no more than five minutes, quickly determined that no wrongdoing took place, and advised my client that he was free to leave.”
On Tuesday night, Jim Thornton appeared on a pre-taped episode of “Wheel of Fortune,” just hours after Sony Pictures Television announced an investigation involving the veteran announcer.
Ryan Seacrest introduced Jim, inquiring about the contents of the wheel that evening. Jim proceeded with his customary comments about the guests and prizes. It’s important to note that “Wheel of Fortune” typically films episodes several months in advance.
As reported by TMZ, Jim was detained by authorities following a flight incident in May. The police were alerted after a fellow passenger raised concerns about his behavior.
Sony Pictures Television previously informed TMZ on Tuesday, stating, “We have recently become aware of allegations regarding Jim Thornton.”
The studio revealed to TMZ that Jim has been suspended, and the search for a replacement has commenced amid the investigation.
