Alfonso Cuarón to Serve as Executive Producer for Dark Fantasy Vampire Series
Dungeons & Dragons offers an expansive universe filled with rich lore and characters. This complexity is a significant reason why the franchise has gained immense popularity in both gaming and visual storytelling. Netflix is diving into this realm with its latest live-action series, Ravenloft. The show will explore the intriguing backstory of Darklord Strahd von Zarovich, one of the most iconic vampire antagonists from the Ravenloft campaign setting. Reports from Deadline indicate that renowned filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón will take on the role of executive producer, alongside John August, who has been enlisted as the series writer. Hasbro Entertainment is also involved in this exciting project.
This collaboration marks another venture between Cuarón and Netflix; he previously wrote and directed the highly acclaimed film Roma for the platform in 2018. Many fans are eager to see how his artistic vision will influence Ravenloft. John August, known for his work on Tim Burton’s films such as Big Fish and Corpse Bride, brings his unique storytelling expertise to this gothic narrative, making him a fitting choice for this adaptation.
If you think you’ve heard about a Dungeons & Dragons adaptation before, you’re not mistaken. A film featuring Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, and Regé-Jean Page was released in 2023. HBO is developing a series based on Baldur’s Gate 3, which offers a fresh take on the D&D universe through the lens of video gaming.
