We are excited to reveal the first official glimpse of the upcoming claymation series Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu, set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ next year.
This charming show has generated significant buzz, largely due to its collaboration with Aardman, the renowned British studio famous for classics such as Chicken Run, Shaun the Sheep, and Wallace & Gromit. Given Pokémon’s previous triumphs with Dwarf Animation’s stop-motion series, Pokémon Concierge, it’s delightful to see this new series fully embrace the endearing qualities of its beloved creatures, creating shows that practically inspire plush toy collections. Notably, this series shifts focus from the iconic mascot Pikachu to showcase his pre-evolution form, engaging in whimsical adventures alongside the green onion-wielding duck, Sirfetch’d.
Here’s the official logline for the series:
In Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, Sirfetch’d and Pichu embark on an adventurous journey across the Galar Region. Together, they undertake a valiant quest to assist and safeguard Pokémon throughout the area. Their plans frequently go awry, yet their acts of heroism strengthen their friendship as they bravely venture into the unknown, where danger, alliances, rivalries, extraordinary Pokémon, and endless laughter await them.
Beyond the logline, we know that the series is set in the Galar region, inspired by the UK from Pokémon Sword & Shield. Importantly, the series will not adopt a human perspective; it will instead provide a unique viewpoint from the lovable Pokémon themselves. If only more kaiju media would take inspiration from the Pokémon Company. With Aardman’s knack for slapstick humor and uniquely British expressions, this series promises to highlight Pokémon’s chaotic charm, complementing the relaxed atmosphere established in Concierge.
“These stories, brimming with adventure and bravery, told from the Pokémon’s perspective, become even more thrilling through the artistic lens of Aardman,” shared Phil Rynda, Pokémon’s director of original animation, in a press release. “Viewers will be thrilled to meet Sirfetch’d, Pichu, and the fantastic cast of Pokémon featured in this series. Aardman has brought the Galar region to life in a way that allows you to feel the air, touch the trees, and yearn to journey alongside our heroic characters.”
Alongside today’s trailer, Disney revealed that they will also host Pokémon The Series: The Beginning, which chronicles the adventures of Ash and Pikachu.
“Pokémon possesses a unique ability to resonate with long-time fans while remaining entirely relevant to younger audiences today,” stated Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family. “This new series, Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, combines Aardman’s signature stop-motion artistry with a bold, playful new perspective on this beloved universe, providing audiences with a fresh way to engage with the characters they adore. Together with Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, these shows are powerful enhancements to Disney XD and Disney+.”
We are eagerly hoping to see our favorite Pokémon from the Galar region make appearances in Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu. We’re not asking for much; we simply want to witness Mr. Rime make an appearance—his comical mustachioed face promises to deliver a wealth of British humor.
Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu is set to launch on Disney XD and Disney+ in 2027.
