Waymo Plans to Eliminate Human Supervisors in San Diego, Las Vegas, Tampa, and Denver.
Waymo has announced its intention to operate fully autonomously in San Diego, Las Vegas, Tampa, and Denver. Soon, the company’s vehicles in these regions will function without a human supervisor at the wheel. Initially, these fully autonomous services will be available exclusively to Waymo employees, with plans to extend them to the general public shortly thereafter.
These four cities will join Dallas, Houston, Orlando, and San Antonio in Waymo’s driverless initiative. The Alphabet-owned company is on track to provide fully autonomous robotaxi services in over 10 cities. Waymo has initiated testing in London as part of its first international expansion. some residents in a cul-de-sac there expressed their displeasure with Waymo vehicles disturbing their peace as they maneuvered out of the street.
In other news, reports indicate that Uber and Waymo have ended their partnership in Phoenix. Passengers can no longer request a Waymo ride through the Uber app, as Uber is developing its own robotaxi service in collaboration with Lucid and Nuro. Riders can still book Waymo rides via the company’s dedicated app.
