Weeks after Mel Robbins faced criticism for advising women to share their banking statements with AI in a Microsoft Copilot advertisement, OpenAI has unveiled a new “personal finance experience” within ChatGPT.
This feature is currently in preview mode for Pro users located in the United States, allowing them to link their financial accounts through the fintech platform Plaid. Once connected, ChatGPT can analyze real monetary figures along with the user’s financial goals to identify spending patterns and assist in future financial planning, as mentioned in OpenAI’s blog post announcing this feature.
Users will have access to a comprehensive dashboard showcasing their financial portfolio, spending habits, and upcoming payments. OpenAI suggests various applications for this feature, including setting financial goals, analyzing travel expenses, assessing investment risks, and reviewing subscriptions.

Pro users in the United States can begin linking their financial accounts today using a web browser or iOS app, with compatibility for numerous financial institutions. While OpenAI has not specified all participating institutions, images of the experience reveal examples like American Express, Bank of America, Charles Schwab, and Robinhood.
OpenAI also mentioned that integration with Intuit—known for TurboTax, Credit Karma, and QuickBooks—is expected to be available soon.
According to OpenAI, approximately 200 million users utilize ChatGPT each month for various financial activities, including budgeting, investment inquiries, and financial planning.
In this new finance mode, ChatGPT does not have access to full account numbers but can evaluate bank balances, transaction histories, and liabilities. Users retain control; they can disconnect their financial accounts whenever they choose, erase financial memories specific to these conversations, or utilize temporary chats that do not appear in the user’s history.
