The officials in Tanzania transported her body to New Jersey amidst an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. However, according to Robinson, none of Ashlee Jenae’s belongings, including her precious engagement ring, accompanied her return. As of Monday, her father remains uncertain about the fate and potential return timeline of her personal items. Furthermore, it is unknown which other belongings, besides her engagement ring, might still be in Tanzania or elsewhere. Meanwhile, Ashlee’s family is diligently planning a heartfelt funeral service, anticipated to be held in New Jersey early next week.
What Events Unfolded Leading to Ashlee Jenae’s Death in Tanzania?
Ashlee Jenae, whose real name is Ashly Robinson, was a prominent lifestyle influencer based in the United States. In April, she and her fiancé, Joe McCann, embarked on a trip to Zanzibar, Tanzania, to celebrate her 31st birthday. They reportedly arrived on April 4, just one day prior to her birthday, and checked into a hotel to begin their festivities. The day before, Ashlee had shared a video on social media depicting Joe’s romantic proposal at Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Her final Instagram post was made on her birthday, featuring a caption that read, “Chapter 31 and I’m exactly where I need to be.”
While enjoying their stay in Zanzibar, the couple reportedly moved to a second hotel. According to local police reports, Ashlee and Joe encountered a domestic dispute at this second hotel on April 8. This conflict, the specifics of which remain undisclosed, prompted hotel staff to separate the couple into different rooms. Local police sources state that Ashlee allegedly “attempted to take her own life using a clothing belt tied inside a wardrobe in Room 25 of the hotel.” A hotel employee discovered her in the wardrobe after utilizing an emergency key to access the room. It was reported that Ashlee had asked for assistance with a charger but did not respond to knocks at her door, leading staff to enter the room. She was subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital but sadly passed away on April 9 at around 3 p.m. local time, as confirmed by Reuters. Initial police reports indicated a possible suicide, although the autopsy findings have not yet been made public.
As per Ashlee Jenae’s father, the family has initiated an independent autopsy of her remains in the United States, and those results are still pending. The family previously informed TMZ that Ashlee displayed no signs of wanting to harm herself, raising further concerns about the circumstances of her death.

According to reports from the Guardian, Tanzanian authorities temporarily confiscated Joe’s passport as he cooperated with the ongoing inquiries.
