Tory Lanez Takes Legal Action Against California Prison for 2025 Stabbing Incident
Lanez has officially filed a lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, along with the warden and 50 correctional officers from the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. This legal action follows an incident where he was stabbed by another inmate, Santino Casio, in May 2025. Court documents obtained by TMZ reveal that Lanez is claiming to have suffered permanent facial scarring and two collapsed lungs. He accuses Warden Danny Samuel of violating CDCR protocols by placing him in close proximity to Casio, as well as alleging that prison staff were absent during the attack and delayed their response. According to the New York Post, Lanez’s legal team asserts that he has experienced significant emotional trauma, damage to his reputation, and a persistent threat to his safety.
Furthermore, Lanez asserts that during his recovery in the hospital following the stabbing, prison staff allegedly confiscated his original songbooks containing unpublished lyrics and notes intended for his attorney. He is now pursuing $100 million in damages, in addition to $1 million for each stab wound he sustained, while also demanding the return of his original songbooks.

As previously reported by TSR, Santino Casio launched a brutal attack on Tory Lanez in May 2025, while he was serving a life sentence for murder. Casio has also been convicted for an additional in-prison assault involving a deadly weapon. Following the incident, prison officials placed Casio in a restricted housing unit pending an investigation. Before the stabbing, Casio claimed to TMZ that he believed Lanez had placed a “price on his head,” stating that he had heard rumors circulating within the prison.
On the day of the stabbing, Casio alleged that he saw a suspicious bulge in Tory’s pocket, prompting him to believe it was a weapon. He admitted to striking Lanez first in what he claimed was an act of self-defense. Interestingly, Casio mentioned that he and Tory had maintained a relatively good relationship prior to the incident, which adds complexity to the narrative surrounding the attack.
