As early June approaches, the gaming world is set to experience an exhilarating time with the highly anticipated launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. This period will also witness a series of exciting showcases as part of the Summer Game Fest. Among these, the two headline events — Summer Game Fest Live and the Xbox Games Showcase — promise to deliver thrilling news and updates. Additionally, we can look forward to the beloved Day of the Devs, which is known for spotlighting indie game developers and their creative projects, further enriching the gaming landscape.
There may be even more surprises on the horizon. Both Nintendo and Sony might take the opportunity to host a Direct or State of Play, respectively, in the upcoming weeks. Furthermore, Ubisoft has not yet announced a Forward event for this year, possibly due to delays in several major game releases. Fans are also eagerly awaiting news from Devolver regarding their next Direct presentation — we are all on the edge of our seats, especially for release dates of titles like Baby Steps and Skate Story!
Currently, the Summer Game Fest is scheduled from June 6 to June 8. With the official demise of E3 (the organizer, Entertainment Software Association, is planning a new industry-focused event for next April), the Summer Game Fest has become the de facto replacement and the largest platform for major announcements and updates until Gamescom in August.
We will continue to update this preview as new details about the showcases are released, including additional events that fall within the SGF umbrella. Expect us to embed videos for each stream as they become available, ensuring you don’t miss any of the action.
Engadget will be present on the ground in Los Angeles to cover the in-person aspects of the SGF, which is primarily geared towards media and content creators. Our team will provide hands-on impressions of many of the featured games during SGF Live.
While many will follow the events from home, we have prepared a comprehensive guide on how to watch Summer Game Fest 2025 and what to anticipate from this grand event. Could we finally receive a Hollow Knight: Silksong release date this time around? The excitement is palpable!

Essential Guide to Watching Summer Game Fest Live — June 6, 5PM ET
Catch the Live Stream on YouTube or Twitch
Despite our minor frustrations regarding the timing of this showcase — which falls late on a Friday evening in the UK and coincides with many individuals on the East Coast wrapping up their workweek — Summer Game Fest Live stands out as one of the most significant events in early June. Scheduled to kick off at 5PM ET, the event promises a thrilling two-hour experience.
The organizers guarantee “spectacular new video game announcements, surprises, and reveals,” which is an enticing prospect for gamers. Host Geoff Keighley has previously set the stage by managing expectations, ensuring that attendees are in for genuine excitement.
Several exciting titles have already been confirmed for the showcase. Viewers can expect to see a sneak peek at Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, a captivating Soulslike action RPG developed by Leenzee, a studio based in China, with a planned release in July. Additionally, the open-world MMORPG Chrono Odyssey will also make an appearance.
Fans can tune into SGF Live on over 20 platforms, including YouTube, Twitch, X, TikTok, Steam, and various international streaming services. The event will be broadcast live from the YouTube Theater, with an option for in-person attendance available for those who wish to experience the excitement firsthand.
Regardless of how you choose to engage with the event, we will ensure you have access to all the major announcements and news emerging from Summer Game Fest Live. Just a heads up — we might enjoy a refreshing adult beverage while we cover the event!
Your Guide to Watching Day of the Devs — June 6, 7PM ET
Stream on YouTube (same stream as SGF Live) or Twitch
As soon as SGF Live wraps up, the YouTube and Twitch streams will seamlessly transition into the Day of the Devs stream for summer 2025. This indie-focused showcase consistently features an impressive lineup of games that gamers should keep a close eye on.
Among the titles set to feature are Possessor(s) from Heart Machine and the intriguing “nightmarish RPG” Neverway from Coldblood and co-publisher Outersloth. Additionally, we can expect to see something from House House, known for the hit Untitled Goose Game — presumably the co-op “walker-talker” Big Walk that was revealed in 2023. Overall, this edition of Day of the Devs will showcase 20 exciting games.
Last year’s event featured the potential 2024 Game of the Year candidate UFO 50, the captivating platformer Screenbound, the survival climbing game Cairn, the delightfully quirky Building Relationships, and the sci-fi mystery Phoenix Springs. Each Day of the Devs showcase seems to expand my Steam wishlist exponentially, which is truly remarkable.
How to Tune In to Wholesome Direct — June 7, 12PM ET

Don’t underestimate the smaller events that unfold during SGF, as they often harbor a plethora of hidden gems. One such event is the Wholesome Direct, which will present around 60 charming games. This event will include world premieres, demo announcements, and updates from notable publishers and developers such as Playstack, btf Games, ustwo games, and Wētā Workshop (whose anticipated Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of The Rings Game is set for release in July).

This showcase lives up to its name by presenting games developed by women-led and majority-women studios. The Women-led Games Showcase will feature an impressive total of 39 titles, including exciting world premieres and eagerly awaited release dates.

How to Watch the Xbox Games Showcase — June 8, 1PM ET
Watch on YouTube or Twitch (with an ASL stream available on Twitch)
How many times do you think we’ll hear the phrase “day one with Game Pass” during this stream? That’s a phrase you can certainly expect to encounter, but Microsoft is gearing up to share a wealth of information. This is the biggest Xbox showcase of the year, promising reveals and updates from across Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard.
Upcoming titles from Microsoft include Fable (2026), Perfect Dark, Gears of War: E-Day, Everwild, State of Decay 3, Clockwork Revolution, OD from Hideo Kojima, and Contraband. While it may be premature for news on The Elder Scrolls 6 since it is still years away, we can expect updates on these titles and others that are yet to be revealed.
I am particularly hopeful for additional insights into the Blade game currently in development by Arkane Studios. It seems likely that we’ll also hear about the next Call of Duty installment during this showcase.
One title that is guaranteed to receive significant attention on June 8 is The Outer Worlds 2, which will enjoy its own dedicated segment immediately following the main Xbox Games Showcase.
Meanwhile, several publishers and organizations are hosting their own presentations in conjunction with SGF. Here’s a schedule of those events:
-
IGN Live — throughout June 7 and 8
-
Southeast Asian Games Showcase — June 7, 3PM ET
Get ready, gamers! Exciting details about a multitude of new games are just around the corner.
