The highly anticipated co-op adventure video game Split Fiction is making its way to the silver screen, featuring the talented Sydney Sweeney in a leading role, as reported by Variety. In addition to Sweeney, the film adaptation is being helmed by acclaimed director Jon M. Chu, known for his work on Wicked, while the screenplay is crafted by the dynamic duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, famous for their contributions to Deadpool and Wolverine. Notably, Sweeney will also take on the role of executive producer for the Split Fiction movie, further solidifying her involvement in this exciting project. The narrative of Split Fiction revolves around two authors, Mio and Zoe, who find themselves ensnared in the very fictional worlds they have created. It remains uncertain which of the two central characters Sweeney will embody in this cinematic adaptation.
Following the successful release of the video game in March, Variety reported a fierce bidding war ensued for the rights to adapt Split Fiction into a film. The game, developed by the innovative indie studio Hazelight Studios from Sweden, revolves around engaging split-screen combat and seamlessly transitions between thrilling sci-fi and enchanting fantasy realms. Its remarkable success was evident as it sold an impressive two million copies within its first week of launch, a feat that likely accelerated the interest in a Hollywood adaptation. The project has been acquired by Story Kitchen, a studio recognized for adapting popular franchises such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Tomb Raider, although a specific release date for the film has yet to be announced.
