Perplexity has unveiled an exciting update for its iOS application, now allowing iPhone users to utilize its cutting-edge AI voice assistant, a feature that was initially made available to Android users earlier this year. This innovative voice assistant is designed to streamline tasks by autonomously browsing the web or interfacing with other applications on behalf of the user. For example, if the user requests a table at a specific restaurant, Perplexity can seamlessly launch the OpenTable app, pre-filling the necessary details like the number of guests, the date, and the time. While the user must still complete the reservation themselves, the process is significantly simplified, requiring just a click of a button to finalize the booking.
In addition to making reservations, users can instruct the voice assistant to compose emails to specific contacts, which they will need to send manually afterward. The assistant can also set up reminders on the user’s calendar, making it easier to keep track of important events and tasks. Moreover, users can ask for recommendations on places to visit, including restaurants that serve their desired cuisine, and Perplexity will conveniently mark those locations on a map. Of course, the assistant is also capable of performing web searches, such as locating specific videos that can be accessed through the YouTube app.
As highlighted by The Verge, Perplexity’s voice assistant is compatible with older iPhone models, in contrast to Apple’s voice intelligence, which is restricted to newer devices. While the iOS version of the assistant currently lacks the ability to analyze the user’s surroundings and provide real-time visual information, this feature is already operational on Android and may eventually be added to the iPhone platform in future updates.
