Stephen A. Smith has firmly stated that he will not be leaving his prominent role on the ESPN network to pursue a political career in the White House. In a recent interview, he emphasized that he is not considering a run for the presidency, putting to rest any speculation regarding his political aspirations.
TMZ Sports recently caught up with the well-known sports commentator in the vibrant streets of New Orleans. In light of a recent report that suggested the 57-year-old Smith was being considered by Democratic Party leaders as a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential election, we took the opportunity to inquire about his feelings on the matter.
Before we could finish our inquiry, SAS was quick to clarify that running for the office of U.S. president is simply not in his plans. He wanted to ensure that everyone understood his position clearly.
“I’m not attempting to run for office or anything like that,” Smith stated emphatically. “I enjoy discussing politics and engaging in conversations about issues beyond just sports. If the American public were to express interest in seeing me run, I wouldn’t be upset about it.”

“I don’t know what they’re thinking. I’m not qualified, but if you want to entertain the idea, you can certainly do so,” he added with a mix of humor and seriousness.
If we look at recent history, it’s evident that having political experience isn’t always necessary to secure a victory in elections—just look at President Donald Trump.
“He has inspired many of us because if he can become president, a lot of us could potentially do the same,” Smith remarked, reflecting on the current political landscape.
There’s always the year 2032, Stephen A. Smith!
