The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are now available for consumers, leading us to look ahead to next year’s iPhone model.
Recent insights from the somewhat reliable leaker Digital Chat Station suggest that next year’s “Pro” models will introduce three notable features: a quad-curved corner design, an even more compact Dynamic Island than the already reduced version on the iPhone 18 Pro, and larger display sizes.
The anticipated “iPhone 20 Pro” and “iPhone 20 Pro Max,” which will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, are expected to feature a 6.4-inch display with a resolution of 2,686 x 1,236 pixels and a 6.96-inch display with a resolution of 2,912 x 1,340 pixels, respectively. This represents a slight increase from the current sizes of the 6.3-inch iPhone 18 Pro and 6.9-inch iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The standout features for these anniversary editions may be their innovative quad-curved glass design. Apple is reportedly planning to curve the corners of the glass, which would not only enhance the screen size but also minimize bezel thickness and seamlessly integrate the glass into the metal mid-frame. This could yield a design reminiscent of the iPhone X, but with a greater emphasis on glass and less on metal.
In August, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman mentioned, “A more aspirational version championed by Apple’s design studio used even more glass, instead of metal, but was scrapped early on.”
Interestingly, Digital Chat Station only indicates that the Dynamic Island will take the form of a hole-punch camera, rather than being completely removed. In the iPhone 18 Pro models, Apple relocated the Face ID sensor beneath the display, departing from the previous pill-shaped cutout that included the selfie camera. Coupled with the under-display FaceTime camera on the iPhone Duo’s inner screen, this has led to speculation about the future of a truly “all-screen” iPhone. Although it is still early for leaks regarding the next iPhone Pro models, it appears that Apple may struggle to achieve a high-quality selfie camera beneath the screen. While Apple has not disclosed any specifications for the resolution of the iPhone Duo’s under-display FaceTime camera, early samples shared during its launch event on September 9 reveal that the quality is lacking.
A pressing question remains: what will be the price of the iPhone 20 Pro models? It is likely that they will be priced higher than the current $1,199 for the iPhone 18 Pro and $1,299 for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, but lower than the $1,999 price tag for the iPhone Duo.
Lastly, if you’re curious about the absence of an “iPhone 19 Pro,” it’s worth noting that Apple also skipped the iPhone 9 during the launch of the iPhone 8/8 Plus alongside the iPhone X.
