YouTube is currently experimenting with an innovative collaboration feature that resembles functionalities found on platforms like Instagram and TikTok. According to a statement from a Google employee on YouTube Help, this new feature will enable content creators to invite collaborators to join their videos, allowing for cross-promotion and exposing each collaborator to the other’s audience. Although this feature is presently being tested by a select few creators, YouTube appears to have future plans to extend this capability to a broader group of users, potentially revolutionizing how creators interact. Lindsey Gamble, a consultant in influencer marketing, shared a screenshot on Threads that illustrates the functionality of this experimental feature, showcasing its potential.
In the image shared by Gamble, it’s evident that when creators add collaborators, their names will be displayed alongside the primary creator on their channel. If there are too many collaborators, particularly on mobile devices, they will appear as “…and more” next to the creator’s name. Users can tap this to view a comprehensive list of all individuals involved in the project, complete with a Subscribe button next to each collaborator’s name, thus facilitating easier access to their content and encouraging audience growth.
Similar to the processes on Instagram and TikTok, the creator who publishes the content will need to send an invitation to another account for collaboration, which must then be approved by the invited user. This mechanism is likely implemented to prevent creators from randomly including other users in their videos without consent. However, it remains unclear whether collaborators will have access to insights and details that are typically restricted to the uploader. As is common with any new experimental feature from YouTube and Google, the company will be actively collecting feedback from testers to determine whether this feature will be rolled out more widely.
