According to the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office, Harshman placed a distress call to their Safety Communications Center, reporting gunshots within her residence and indicating that her daughters had been shot. Upon inquiries about the status of the victims, she shockingly stated that she believed they were deceased, highlighting the gravity of the situation unfolding in her home.
In this harrowing call, the mother also mentioned the locations of her children, revealing that two were found upstairs in their cribs and two were in their shared bedroom downstairs. The dispatcher learned that Harshman stated she could be found in her upstairs bedroom and expressed intentions to harm herself, which further escalated the urgency of the situation.
Despite the dispatcher’s desperate attempts to keep Harshman on the line, pleading for her to remain until help arrived, the mother reportedly insisted multiple times that it was too late for her and disconnected the call. Unfortunately, this disconnection occurred before emergency responders could reach the scene, intensifying the tragic outcome of this incident.

On a GoFundMe page set up to support the father and stepmother of the surviving seven-year-old girl and the nine-year-old who tragically died, it was shared that she is facing a “severe traumatic brain injury and is fighting for her life.” This situation underscores the profound impact of violence on families and the urgent need for community support during such crises.
“If she pulls through, her family will have a long and difficult journey ahead, filled with uncertainty. The loss and trauma they are experiencing are unimaginable,” the fundraiser organizer expressed, highlighting the critical need for ongoing support and understanding in the face of such tragedies.
According to AP, friends informed the Scripps News Group that Harshman struggled with significant mental health challenges, including post-partum depression. This revelation sheds light on the importance of mental health awareness and the necessity for accessible support systems to help individuals facing similar struggles.
“Everything can change in an instant,” remarked Harshman’s friend, Briana Baker, to the outlet. “We must never think, ‘It could never happen to me.’ It’s essential to stay humble and kind, as we can never know what someone might be battling mentally. Tranyelle was not the monster this tragedy portrays her as; she was kind, loving, and humorous. Her children were her main focus in life, and her legacy should reflect the love she had for them.”
