Mark Your Calendar: ‘Happy Face’ Series Premiere Date
It’s essential to distinguish this series from the 2014 Lifetime film The Happy Face Killer, which featured David Arquette. The new series Happy Face draws from the poignant true story of Melissa G. Moore, who learned at the tender age of 15 that her father was the notorious serial killer Keith Hunter Jesperson. This eight-episode series meticulously explores the chilling details of the murders committed by Jesperson and the profound, lasting impact these heinous crimes had on both his family and the families of his victims, shedding light on the emotional turmoil they endured.
As reported by Rolling Stone, Keith Hunter Jesperson, a father of three, was responsible for the deaths of at least eight women during a terrifying five-year spree in the 1990s. In an unsettling twist, Jesperson taunted law enforcement with letters that featured mocking smiley faces, further deepening the horror of his actions. He is currently serving a life sentence in an Oregon penitentiary, with no chance of parole, ensuring that he will never see the outside world again.
Happy Face centers on the complex relationship between Melissa, portrayed by Annaleigh Ashford, and her father, portrayed by Dennis Quaid, who has become infamous as the ‘Happy Face Killer’. The official logline describes how, after years of estrangement, he manipulates his way back into her life, forcing Melissa to confront a chilling reality. In a desperate race against time, she must uncover the truth behind a potentially innocent man facing execution for a crime her father committed. Throughout this emotional journey, she grapples with the harrowing effects her father’s actions had on the victims’ families and embarks on a path of self-discovery and acceptance.
