The ability of X to censor and adjust its Grok model to favor the image of its founder, along with his political projects, raises significant ethical concerns. This is especially pertinent given Musk and X’s recurrent criticisms of other entities for disseminating falsehoods and manipulating the truth.

xAI has claimed this incident was merely a simple mistake that was swiftly rectified. However, in light of X’s broader censorship practices—such as silencing journalists under pressure from governments, removing verification checkmarks from critics, and limiting the reach of content that contradicts Musk’s views—this incident undermines Musk’s public advocacy for free speech and transparent discourse.
