X has introduced a revamped video editor and recording interface for the iOS version of its application. The newly updated editor features an array of enhancements, including multi-language captions and the ability to record using a green screen.
This sequence illustrates how X’s new video capture interface incorporates features into a user-friendly overlay, providing users with enhanced options for sharing videos within the application.
Nikita Bier, the head of product at X, emphasized that expanding the capabilities of the updated player has been a top priority for the team.
Bier noted: “One of our main goals is to empower creators with the tools necessary to produce original content and to reward those creators. We have many more updates planned for the video editor in the upcoming weeks.”
X has been exploring ways to elevate video content as a significant aspect of the app over the past few years. This exploration has included trials for a dedicated video tab in the lower navigation bar and various partnerships aimed at original video content.
In 2024, former CEO Linda Yaccarino stated that X had transitioned into a “video-first platform,” and highlighted a significant increase in video views within the app, indicating a notable change in user engagement.
Despite Yaccarino’s assertion, X has not made substantial progress in becoming a tool primarily focused on video content. The company seems to have relied on the power of its statement rather than implementing the necessary changes to compete with platforms like TikTok.
As a result, X continues to lag behind competitors such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, which remains a key target for X owner Elon Musk.
With improved video posting features, it is possible that more users will embrace video content, potentially steering the platform toward a greater emphasis on this aspect.
