On Tuesday, Reddit unveiled new initiatives aimed at safeguarding users from misinformation as the U.S. midterm elections approach. The platform also provided insights into its strategies for identifying and eliminating content generated by artificial intelligence, which could influence election reporting.
To support these efforts, Reddit is reintroducing its “Up the Vote” initiative for the midterms. This program will serve as a dedicated resource for users seeking election-related information directly within the platform.

This dedicated space will be focused on delivering updates and valuable guidance concerning the midterms, featuring insights from government officials and nonpartisan experts.
In collaboration with National Voter Registration Day and Vote Early Day, Reddit will offer essential information on voter registration and civic engagement. the platform will host an Ask Me Anything (AMA) series, where experts will clarify voting procedures and address user inquiries about the electoral process.
Reddit has also reaffirmed its policies regarding the spread of election misinformation and interference.
The platform acknowledged that the landscape of threats has evolved since the last U.S. election, with increasingly sophisticated AI tools emerging to produce misleading information.
To combat this, Reddit has developed advanced AI detection systems that have already decreased user exposure to spam and inauthentic content by 20%, and the platform now removes nearly 2 million fraudulent upvotes each day.
“These initiatives guarantee that the content visible on Reddit is the result of authentic human engagement, not manipulation by spammers or malicious entities,” Reddit stated.
Reddit will specifically target election misinformation as part of a wider commitment to protect users from deceptive tactics during the election cycle.
Reddit reiterated its current stipulations regarding political advertising, emphasizing that candidates must conduct an AMA session within the app prior to launching election ads.
“Our aim with this requirement is to transform political advertisements into opportunities for genuine dialogue with the community rather than mere one-way messaging,” Reddit explained.
