A fast word of clarification for TikTok customers: 10-minute video uploads usually are not gone from the app.
Over the previous week or so, a number of TikTok customers have famous that the 10-minute recording choice has been removed from the UI.
As you possibly can see on this screenshot, shared by social media skilled Matt Navarra, the choice to document a 10-minute clip has disappeared, with 3 minutes now your longest recording choice.
That’s prompted many to take a position that TikTok hasn’t seen success with longer clips, which has now seen it transfer again to shorter uploads, with the intention to re-focus on its core energy.
Which can be considerably true, primarily based on what TikTok tells us concerning the change:
“We have now not eliminated 10 minute movies – customers can nonetheless add movies as much as 10 minutes. There was an earlier experiment that allowed choose customers to additionally document movies as much as 10 minutes from the TikTok app, however that has since ended.”
So TikTok says that the one aspect that’s been depreciated is the aptitude to document 10-minute movies inside the digicam UI, and that customers can nonetheless add longer movies if they need. However the recording course of was solely a take a look at, and TikTok’s now eliminated it.
This might mirror two issues – for one, it possible does recommend that 10-minute uploads haven’t been massively standard, so TikTok sees no motive to maintain supporting that performance within the app. That doesn’t imply that nobody’s seen success with longer content material, however evidently both it wasn’t getting used loads, or that customers aren’t responding to longer clips, which is why TikTok’s taking it away as a direct, in-stream alternative.
It might additionally recommend that the longer movies which have been uploaded to the app have typically been edited and crafted in different instruments, with professional customers taking the time to create extra participating, polished clips, that they’re then importing into the app. Which they don’t want the in-app recording performance for – and actually, if you happen to’re importing longer TikTok clips, you’re in all probability going to want to edit them and form them right into a compelling narrative, which might make the TikTok digicam much less mandatory on this respect.
So, the underside line is that 10-minute uploads are nonetheless obtainable on TikTok, however you possibly can’t document them within the app. However you in all probability weren’t anyway, so in all probability not a large change.
