Teacher Stepped on Students’ Backs Weighing 350 Pounds

A teacher from Minnesota is now facing serious repercussions after a troubling incident during a lockdown drill, which left students and their families seeking clarity. Recently, Jason Lowell Rogers learned the outcome of his case as it progressed through the judicial system.

Court Ruling for Jason Lowell Rogers Announced

On Tuesday, July 28, Rogers, age 49, received a stay of adjudication from Otter Tail County District Court after entering a guilty plea. This legal provision under Minnesota law allows defendants to forgo a formal conviction if they successfully complete the conditions set by the court. As part of his sentencing, Rogers will undergo two years of probation, during which he must forfeit his teaching license in Minnesota and is barred from teaching in any state.

The charges stem from an incident in March 2025, where Rogers faced accusations of malicious punishment of a child. Following the initial allegations, prosecutors added two more charges involving multiple students.

Details of the Alleged Incident Involving Students

The complaint reveals that one sixth-grade student reported lying on his stomach during the lockdown drill when Rogers, who weighed over 350 pounds at the time, stood on his back with both feet for approximately ten seconds. The student cried out in pain, expressing that his back hurt severely, leading him to believe something might be broken. He described the experience as feeling like he was being used as a “stepping stool.”

In subsequent interviews, Rogers acknowledged stepping on students. He stated that he believed they were not taking the drill seriously and that his actions were intended to capture their attention.

Conditions Imposed on Teacher’s Sentencing

Rogers also confessed to stepping on two additional students, stating he “might have” used both feet on one of them and described another instance in which he walked over a different student. Following these allegations, he was placed on administrative leave by the Underwood School District.

As part of his probation, Rogers must complete an anger management assessment, perform 90 hours of community service, write apology letters to each affected student, and pay fines totaling $2,250. If he meets all the requirements, his case will be dismissed in accordance with the stay of adjudication.
