Substack is introducing a new video feature

Substack is creating on its interactive Chat function, nowadays introducing an integrated video tool for creators.

Newsletter creators who use the common platform can now send videos straight to their subscribers in chat. These subscribed to a creator’s chat will be quickly notified that a video has been uploaded.

Creators can use their phones to record and upload these videos straight onto Substack.

In a weblog post written by Jasmine Sun, Solution Manager at Substack, the function is described as “an quick way for creators to speak straight to their subscribers”, without having becoming at the mercy of algorithms on other video-centric platforms.

“We constructed video in Chat for publishers who want to speak straight to subscribers in this way,” writes Sun.

“Believe of video in Chat like sending a voice memo to a group chat, or recording a video for your Instagram story—minus the opaque algorithm deciding irrespective of whether your post gets observed,” reads the post, which did not miss a likelihood to take a dig at Meta-owned social giant Instagram.

Substack has surely gotten into videos much more seriously, involving video podcasts and shareable clips into its solutions for newsletter writers. The platform seems to be adapting and redesigning its goods to maintain up with the sea of social media platforms out there, as observed with the lots of capabilities introduced in the previous couple of years: the invention of chat, private newsletters, and “Notes”, to name a couple of.

With this most recent function, it appears the platform is prepared to take on even much more functions – and maybe try to eclipse competitors.
