A highly anticipated Spyro game is on the horizon, as announced by video game studio Toys for Bob during the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase.
‘Fatal Fury’ joins the list of fighting games-turned-movies
Entitled Spyro: A Realm Beyond, this game is scheduled for release in spring 2027. It marks the return of the Spyro franchise after nearly two decades since 2008’s The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon. The game is a collaborative effort between Toys for Bob and Microsoft’s Activision.
Fans of the series will recognize several familiar elements in Spyro: A Realm Beyond. Notably, Tom Kenny reprises his role as the voice of Spyro, a character he has brought to life since 1999’s Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage.

Players can expect several innovative features in the new game. The most exciting addition is a brand new flight mechanic, which Toys for Bob describes as “not gliding, not a limited set of flight levels. True dragon flight.”
A teaser showcased during the Xbox Games Showcase provided a glimpse of this flight gameplay, displaying Spyro soaring high above the ground.
Lou Studdert, the associate creative director for Spyro: A Realm Beyond at Toys for Bob, explained that players can simply “press a button” to take to the skies. This new mechanic allows players the freedom to fly whenever and wherever they desire, encouraging strategic thinking about how to navigate the environment while airborne.
The introduction of true dragon flight, along with Spyro’s redesigned, larger wings, represents a significant evolution in gameplay for Spyro: A Realm Beyond. This exciting title will be available on Xbox Series X and S, PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 next spring.
