SpaceXAI is set to unveil a groundbreaking AI model as early as this Wednesday. This innovative model marks the first collaboration between SpaceXAI and the AI startup Cursor, which SpaceX is in the process of acquiring for a staggering $60 billion. According to Elon Musk, the Grok AI model released in May integrated data from Cursor.
Recently, Elon Musk shared on X that the newest unreleased model, Grok 4.5, is currently undergoing beta testing at both SpaceX and Tesla. He highlighted that its performance is on par with a certain version of Claude Opus, which is part of Anthropic’s offerings just below the exceptionally powerful Fable.
Grok 4.5, built on our 1.5T V9 foundation model and enhanced with Cursor data during additional training, is now in private beta at SpaceX & Tesla. Initial evaluations indicate performance comparable to, or even surpassing, Opus.

The report from The Information provides further details, indicating that the model is being internally evaluated against Claude Opus 4.8 and OpenAI’s latest GPT 5.5 model, which has just been released, although GPT-5.6 is anticipated to debut soon.
Michael Truell, the founder of Cursor, announced last month that his team was developing a model intended to compete with the Frontier models by Anthropic and OpenAI. He described this initiative as the “next phase of the company,” although he did not explicitly connect this model to SpaceXAI at that time.
SpaceXAI represents a rebranding of the company previously known as xAI, with the announcement made on Monday.
