Smart Glasses: Meta Expands Live Translation and AI Access

Spread the love

The innovative Meta AI technology integrated into Ray-Ban Meta glasses is set to reach a wider audience soon. The highly anticipated Live Translation feature is being rolled out across all markets where these smart glasses are sold. Additionally, users in the US and Canada will soon gain access to the Live AI functionality, enabling seamless conversations about the visual elements in your environment. In a significant enhancement for users in the EU, the Meta AI capabilities are now also available for those who own these advanced eyewear.

The Live Translation feature, previously limited to early access, is now accessible in all regions offering Ray-Ban Meta glasses. This feature is incredibly useful for travelers or those engaging with locals who speak different languages. The AI-powered translation provides real-time speech in your chosen language, making it easier to communicate effectively. Furthermore, you can view a translated transcript directly on your smartphone, ensuring you never miss a word during important conversations.

Currently, Live Translation supports languages including English, French, Italian, and Spanish. To optimize the user experience, it is recommended to download the necessary language packs ahead of time, enabling offline use without relying on Wi-Fi or mobile data from your connected device. To activate this feature, simply say, “Hey Meta, start live translation,” and begin your multilingual journey.

For users in the US and Canada, the new Live AI functionality is now available, allowing you to interact with your glasses more intuitively. This feature allows you to inquire about your surroundings without the need to say “Hey Meta” repeatedly, enabling a more natural conversation flow. You can even interject with questions or comments, enhancing user engagement. This capability, which was previously in beta, allows you to discuss your environment, asking questions like what ingredients are missing for your recipe or what wine pairs best with your meal. To activate this feature, simply say, “Hey Meta, start live AI.”

Moreover, Meta AI is now rolling out across all supported countries within the European Union. Beginning next week, users in these countries will also gain access to a visual search feature, which answers specific queries about your surroundings. However, unlike Live AI, this feature does not support interruptions or free-flowing conversation.

The integration of Instagram with the glasses is also set to expand significantly. According to Meta, soon you will be able to send and receive Instagram DMs, photos, and even conduct audio and video calls using your Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Previously, users could only make calls and send messages through WhatsApp and Messenger, but this new functionality will provide a comprehensive range of communication options. To get started, simply say, “Hey Meta, send a message to [your recipient’s name] on Instagram.”

Additionally, support for various music applications is expanding beyond just the US and Canada. Meta is introducing compatibility for popular music services like Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Shazam in regions outside of North America. Once the update is implemented, users will be able to ask their glasses questions such as, “Hey Meta, what’s the name of this song?” or “Hey Meta, when did this album come out?” This feature will greatly enhance the music listening experience for users worldwide.

While no significant hardware updates were announced during this release (with rumors suggesting the next version featuring a screen may debut later this year), Meta and Ray-Ban are unveiling new styles for the second-generation glasses. The new offerings include various combinations of frames and lens colors, such as the cat-eye-shaped Shiny Chalky Gray with Transitions Sapphire lenses and the classic Skyler Shiny Black with G15 Green lenses, as well as Skyler Shiny Black with clear lenses. These stylish updates cater to personal preferences while maintaining cutting-edge technology.
