Threads is currently experimenting with a new group engagement feature called Threads Friends. This option allows users to form a smaller, more intimate community with selected connections.
Threads Friends operates similarly to Instagram’s Close Friends feature, offering a private space for users to share posts exclusively with a chosen group rather than broadcasting updates to their entire follower base. This functionality aims to enhance privacy and targeted interaction.
Users on Threads will be able to curate a list of up to 50 connections to include in their Threads Friends group.
According to Threads, “People you add will see Threads Friends on your posts, so they’ll know they’re part of your list. If someone on your list likes or replies to your post, others on your Threads Friends list will be able to see their username and how they interact with your post.”
Once a user establishes their Threads Friends list, they will have the capability to share updates exclusively with this select group.
This initiative may serve as a new strategy to foster engagement within the app, reflecting the growing trend of shifting away from public postings toward more curated group interactions.
Currently, Threads is testing this feature with users in Ireland, Italy, and Japan; however, individuals from anywhere in the world can be added to a Friends group.
