SDCC: Robert Downey Jr. returns to Marvel as Doctor Doom in ‘Avengers Doomsday’

Robert Downey Jr. is returning to Marvel — this time as an MCU villain.

Marvel and RDJ revealed the shock on the finish of the franchise’s panel at Comedian-Con on Saturday, Deadline and others reported.

Beforehand, Downey Jr. performed Iron Man from 2008’s Iron Man to 2019’s Avengers: Endgame (when, to not spoil a five-year-old film, however he died). Now, he’ll play villain Victor Von Doom aka Physician Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.

As Polygon reported, in 2022 Marvel introduced that the following Avengers could be The Kang Dynasty, starring Jonathan Majors. In December 2023, a New York courtroom discovered Majors responsible of assault and harassment. Now, plainly Kang Dynasty is lifeless, and Doomsday will take its place.

Anthony and Joe Russo, recognized collectively because the Russo Brothers, will direct Doomsday. The duo beforehand directed a number of different MCU movies, together with Endgame. When teasing the shock, the brothers commented on the Comedian-Con stage that they wanted “the best actor on this planet” for the character, and that Downey Jr. is “the one individual” who can play Victor Von Doom.
