Scribble on Other Users’ Posts with Threads Now

Threads is introducing an exciting new feature designed to enhance user creativity by allowing individuals to remix posts from other users. The latest addition to the app is a “markup” tool, which enables users to creatively annotate or doodle over posts they wish to share with their followers. Adam Mosseri, the head of the platform, recently discussed this innovative feature, emphasizing its potential to foster a more personalized and engaging experience for users.

This markup functionality can be found in the menu that appears when users opt to quote or repost content. However, instead of merely quoting a post, it opens up an editing interface that allows for the addition of highlights, arrows, or doodles placed directly on a screenshot of the original post. Currently, the available tools are somewhat restricted, allowing users to add yellow highlights, red arrows, or simple doodles. Nevertheless, Mosseri indicated that more features and options are on the horizon, suggesting that Meta is committed to expanding creative tools on the platform.

A representative from Threads confirmed that this markup feature will function similarly to quoting posts, meaning that the original poster will receive a notification if someone chooses to annotate their content. Additionally, users can manage their privacy settings by utilizing the “who can reply and quote” feature, which allows them to disable markups on their own posts if desired, ensuring control over how their content is shared and interacted with.

Furthermore, the app is officially launching two other previously previewed features that are anticipated to benefit brands, creators, and professionals managing a presence on the platform. These enhancements come at a crucial time when users have been longing for more advanced business-oriented tools, which have been somewhat lacking compared to other Meta platforms. Both features could also prove invaluable if Meta decides to monetize Threads in the future, a development that is allegedly planned for early 2025, indicating a significant shift in the app’s functionality and purpose.
