While the Roborock Saros Z70’s innovative prehensile arm took center stage at CES, it wasn’t the only advanced robot vacuum introduced by Roborock in January. The company also presented its latest flagship model, the Saros 10, which is the successor to last year’s S8 MaxV Ultra. This new robovac promises enhanced features and performance, making it a compelling choice for tech enthusiasts and homeowners alike.

Here’s an in-depth look at the Roborock Saros 10, exploring its standout features, capabilities, and how it stacks up against its predecessor, the S8 MaxV Ultra.

Understanding the Absence of the Roborock S9 MaxV Ultra

For dedicated Roborock enthusiasts, the anticipation for the Roborock S9 MaxV Ultra in 2025 was likely high, especially given the S8 MaxV Ultra’s success following the S7 MaxV Ultra. However, Roborock has chosen to revamp its product naming strategy, opting for the simplified Saros branding. This shift means that there will be no S9 MaxV Ultra; instead, the Roborock Saros 10 has stepped in as the flagship model for 2025.

While the Roborock Saros 10 is positioned as the company’s flagship model for 2025, Roborock has also introduced the Saros 10R this year. Both models share several similarities, including their pricing, but they also possess distinct features that set them apart. The most significant difference lies in their cleaning technologies: the Saros 10 is equipped with a D-shaped vibrating mop pad, while the Saros 10R employs dual spinning mops for enhanced cleaning efficiency. Additionally, the Saros 10 features an independent edge mop that activates upon detecting edges, whereas the Saros 10R utilizes a hinged arm to manage edge cleaning.

Mashable Light Speed

Beyond the more obvious distinctions, there are additional subtle differences between these two models, particularly in their navigation systems. According to Roborock, the Saros 10 utilizes advanced LDS laser navigation, while the Saros 10R is equipped with a 3D time-of-flight navigation system. The Saros 10R is designed for smaller spaces, with an optimal coverage area of 200 square meters and a runtime of 180 minutes. In contrast, it only comes in black and features a docking station with a slightly curved top, making it less practical for placing objects on.

Comparing the Roborock Saros 10 and S8 MaxV Ultra: Similarities and Contrasts

The Roborock Saros 10 incorporates many features from last year’s S8 MaxV Ultra, including functionalities such as automatic mop washing, drying, detergent dispensing, and the convenience of automatic tank refilling and dust emptying at their respective charging bases. These features have become standard among high-end robot vacuums, making their inclusion expected rather than surprising.

The most significant differences between the Roborock Saros 10 and the S8 MaxV Ultra lie in their design and operational capabilities. Despite both featuring D-shaped mop pads and round designs, numerous enhancements have been made to the Saros 10, making it stand out in the competitive market.

  • The Saros 10 can clear higher thresholds than its predecessor. Roborock claims that the Saros 10 can navigate obstacles up to 1.18 inches (3 cm) high due to its innovative AdaptiLift Chassis, and even tackle thresholds reaching 1.57 inches (4 cm) through a multi-step approach. In contrast, the S8 MaxV Ultra is limited to handling smaller thresholds of around 0.8 inches (2 cm). This enhanced capability reduces the chances of the Saros 10 getting stuck on modest barriers, making it a more reliable choice for homes with varied floor heights.

Additionally, the Saros 10 employs its lifting system to exert extra pressure on the mop when wet stains are detected, ensuring a thorough clean, and it can elevate itself on plush carpets to maintain optimal suction.

  • Enhanced side brush design for improved cleaning. A notable change in the Saros 10 is the introduction of the Flexiarm Riser Side Brush, which replaces the FlexiArm Design Side Brush found on the S8 MaxV Ultra. Unlike the S8 MaxV Ultra’s side brush that extends at corners, the Saros 10’s brush can retract and lift into the vacuum’s body when not in use, minimizing the risk of collisions. This side brush also features an asymmetrical design that helps reduce hair tangling, compared to the S8 MaxV Ultra’s symmetrical design.

  • Revolutionary roller brush configuration. Roborock has replaced the S8 MaxV Ultra’s DuoRoller Brush with the DuoDivide Anti-Tangle Brush in the Saros 10. This new design consists of two shorter rollers positioned side by side, which effectively capture debris while guiding hair towards the center gap between the rollers for efficient suction. The previous DuoRoller Brush configuration from the S8 MaxV Ultra featured two full-length rollers, which, while functional, may not have been as effective in managing hair.

  • Automatic mop pad detachment for convenience. Both the Saros 10 and S8 MaxV Ultra have the ability to lift their mop or main brush when not in use. However, the Saros 10 takes it a step further by automatically detaching its mop pad when vacuuming, allowing it to remain in its charging dock until needed. This feature simplifies the cleaning process, ensuring that users don’t have to manage wet mop pads hovering near their carpets.

  • Design improvements with retractable LiDAR. One of the challenges with robot vacuums is their ability to fit under low furniture. The Saros 10 addresses this issue by having a retractable LiDAR sensor that lowers when it encounters obstacles, resulting in a sleek profile of 3.14 inches (7.98 cm). This is a significant reduction from the S8 MaxV Ultra’s height of 4.96 inches (12.6 cm), making the Saros 10 more adept at reaching tight spots for a comprehensive cleaning experience.

Furthermore, the Saros 10 boasts over double the suction power of the S8 MaxV Ultra, rated at 22,000Pa compared to the S8 MaxV Ultra’s 10,000Pa, ensuring better dirt and debris removal. Additionally, the Saros 10 operates more quietly, with noise levels at 64dB in Balanced Mode, compared to the 67dB of the S8 MaxV Ultra. This difference may seem minor, but it can significantly affect your cleaning routine, especially if you prefer to vacuum while sleeping.

With a larger 6400mAh battery capacity, the Saros 10 can run for an impressive 220 minutes in quiet mode, whereas the S8 MaxV Ultra has a smaller 5200mAh battery that lasts 180 minutes. However, it’s essential to note that despite the increased runtime, the Saros 10 is designed for a smaller coverage area of 240 square meters, compared to the S8 MaxV Ultra’s 300 square meters. This discrepancy may arise from the Saros 10’s smaller water tank capacity of 70ml, which limits its mopping capabilities compared to its predecessor’s 100ml tank.

When it comes to selecting the ideal robot vacuum, your individual needs and lifestyle play a crucial role in the decision-making process. If your home features hard flooring, minimal furniture height, and no significant thresholds, the S8 MaxV Ultra could serve your cleaning needs adequately. Conversely, if your living space includes small thresholds, low-profile furniture, or plush carpets, or if you’re concerned about hair tangling in the brush, investing in the Roborock Saros 10 may be the superior choice.

Furthermore, it’s essential to keep in mind that older robot vacuum models may not receive support as long as newer releases, which could influence your purchasing decision. For instance, while U.S. customers are not impacted, the S8 MaxV Ultra has already been marked as an end-of-life product in Roborock’s Australian store, despite being released just last year.
