Broadway is shining a spotlight on a talented dancer whose impressive résumé has already begun to stand out.
Regine Sophia’s current performance in Chess The Musical at the Imperial Theatre marks a significant milestone in her Broadway journey. This achievement is not merely a result of a buzzworthy casting choice; rather, it represents a culmination of her extensive body of work, which includes leading roles in esteemed theaters, notable accolades for her dance prowess, competitive achievements, and a diverse range of styles.
Her role in Chess carries substantial weight due to the robust résumé that supports it.
Securing her position in the production followed an extensive audition process that spanned several months, involving a large pool of talented dancers, with only a select few ultimately chosen. Regine Sophia was among that elite group. Notably, she stands out as one of only two cast members making their Broadway debut, further underscoring the significance of this moment. The production has since received the title of “Most Outstanding Dance Group,” with Regine Sophia contributing to the work that earned that distinction.
“I take that trust seriously,” she shares. “When you are invited into a production of this caliber, you want to deliver everything you’ve got.”
This sense of accountability permeates her entire career. Long before her role in Chess, Regine Sophia had already distinguished herself in demanding featured roles in reputable venues. She portrayed Kylar in Bring It On! at The Muny and played Portia in Something Rotten! at Music Theatre Wichita. These principal roles highlight her versatility and indicate that her career is not solely based on a single appearance, rhythm, or type of performance.
“I love stepping into roles that demand different strengths,” she explains. “It challenges me and fosters my growth.”
Her extensive skill set was evident as she led in roles like Patsy in Crazy for You, in addition to various other roles across multiple productions.
This versatility explains why her current moment feels so impactful. Regine Sophia is not being introduced to audiences with just one impressive credential. She arrives backed by achievements from various arenas.
From 2023 to 2025, she received five individual scholarships and awards recognizing her talent in dance and performance, including the June H. Ford Memorial Award for Musical Theatre Dance Performance, the Reuben & Gladys Golumbic Scholarship for Performance Achievement, the Fainor Family Award for the Arts in Musical Theatre, the Robert E. Leonard Award, and the Sue Carson Award.

“I take pride in these honors because they reflect years of dedication,” she states. “They serve as a reminder that my efforts have substance.”
Her diverse dance background contributes to the clarity of that substance. Regine Sophia has experience spanning hip hop, jazz, musical theatre dance, ballet, and modern-contemporary styles. This variety is not just a checklist; it shapes her identity as a dancer. She has consciously chosen to cultivate a broad skill set rather than confining herself to a single style.
“I have always aimed to be genuinely versatile,” she remarks. “I want to bring a comprehensive skill set into every opportunity.”
This drive began early in her life. Regine started taking hip hop and ballet classes at the age of five and continued to expand her training as her abilities developed. She later led the 13-member METTA Dance Troupe as dance captain, achieving a silver medal at the Philippine National Dance Championships. she was first runner-up in the same championships, received an honorable mention at the Philippine Dance Cup, and performed as an opening act for Ballet Philippines during its production of Romeo and Juliet.
These accomplishments are significant on paper, but they also signify something deeper. Regine Sophia has been entrusted with responsibilities beyond dancing, including managing logistics, relaying information, overseeing proposals, adjusting schedules, and resolving group conflicts when necessary. She consistently demonstrates her understanding of the considerable work that goes into the art form, extending beyond the performance itself.
“I care about what strengthens the entire process,” she emphasizes. “That includes everything that happens before the audience sees the final result.”
Her journey into musical theatre began after witnessing the Asia-Pacific tour of Cats The Musical. This experience deeply influenced her, igniting a serious desire to be part of that world. Although she had already started her dance training, that production crystallized her aspirations, giving her a clear vision of the path she wanted to follow and the level of excellence she aimed to achieve.
“It made the dream feel tangible,” she explains. “After that, I could envision my future more vividly.”

Today, she is living that dream while also looking far beyond her current success. Regine Sophia envisions more opportunities on Broadway, performances across the nation, international tours, and continued personal growth in her craft. She also aspires to delve into choreography and remain actively involved in teaching and sharing knowledge within the theatre and dance communities.
This forward-thinking approach aligns with the overarching trajectory of her career. Regine Sophia is not just resting on one exciting achievement, hoping it lasts indefinitely. She is building a foundation. While Broadway helps elevate her visibility, the reality is that her groundwork was already established.
