Paid Boosting for Personal Updates Tested by LinkedIn

LinkedIn is currently experimenting with an exciting new advertising feature, allowing selected users to enhance the visibility of their personal posts. This option complements the existing capabilities for business page updates, enabling individuals to extend their reach within the platform effectively.

If your goal is to elevate your personal brand on LinkedIn and position yourself as a thought leader within your industry, this new feature could be a game changer for you. By utilizing this tool, you can increase your online presence and foster stronger connections within your professional network.

This innovative feature builds on LinkedIn’s initial “Boost” option, which was already available for business posts. Now, individuals can easily amplify their personal updates, making it a straightforward method to gain additional visibility and engagement for posts that resonate with their audience.

The image above, shared by LinkedIn specialist Kevin D. Turner, illustrates how some users are now being prompted to enhance their posts by boosting them directly in the feed. This feature is designed to increase impressions, helping users gain the attention they deserve for their content.

LinkedIn has confirmed to Social Media Today that this feature is currently in a testing phase, available to a limited number of paying users. This selective rollout allows LinkedIn to assess its effectiveness and gather feedback from early adopters before a broader launch.

According to LinkedIn:

“We’ve heard from our members and customers that they want more ways to increase their visibility and build their brand, so we’re currently testing new ways to boost content with a small subset of members and Premium Business subscribers in the U.S.”

As highlighted, the “Boosting” feature simplifies the ad experience on LinkedIn, offering fewer targeting options. This design is intentional, aimed at enabling users to quickly amplify their top-performing posts without getting bogged down in complex ad settings.

In the overview of boosting personal posts, LinkedIn clarifies that this feature currently applies only to specific post types, including text, images, articles, videos, and newsletter posts. Unfortunately, job postings, events, documents, polls, and group posts are not eligible for boosting at this time.

By selecting the “Boost” option, users will encounter limited objectives and targeting capabilities. LinkedIn will utilize the content of your post to identify and connect with the most relevant audience, thereby increasing the likelihood of achieving greater engagement and visibility for your personal updates.

Furthermore, LinkedIn emphasizes that boosting personal posts differs from its Thought Leader Ads program:

“Thought Leader Ads allow company pages to sponsor posts from affiliated members, while boosting gives individual members the power to enhance their own posts.”

This development is particularly noteworthy considering that LinkedIn users tend to interact more with personal posts compared to business page updates. Therefore, this feature may serve as a valuable tool for both individuals and organizations looking to highlight their leading experts through targeted amplification.

It could also significantly benefit those aiming to enhance their professional reputation by broadening the reach of their insights and contributions within the app.

Many users are likely eager to explore this new feature; however, it’s important to note that access is currently limited to a select group. As testing continues, more users may soon find themselves able to utilize this option.

Expect to see this feature rolled out more broadly in 2025, offering a fresh strategy to enhance your LinkedIn engagement and visibility.
