Each time a Critical Role campaign reaches its conclusion, it becomes a significant event in the fandom. These finales are not just mere episodes; they are celebrated occasions that draw enthusiastic reactions from fans who eagerly anticipate what lies ahead. This excitement is particularly relevant now, as the beloved Actual Play series is already hinting at its forthcoming ventures, ensuring that the community remains engaged and buzzing with anticipation.
On Thursday, February 6, the much-anticipated “Bells Hells” campaign will culminate in an epic eight-and-a-half-hour episode, marking the longest conclusion in Critical Role history. Previous core campaign finales were significantly shorter, lasting four-and-a-half and seven hours, respectively. In contrast, the spinoff series Exandria Unlimited usually features conclusions that run between three to five hours, with the notable exception of Calamity, which wrapped up just over six hours. For fans who can’t commit to watching the entire livestream on Beacon, Twitch, or YouTube, a YouTube VOD and podcast will be available the following week, ensuring that no one misses out on this monumental event.
Following the conclusion of “Bells,” Critical Role will reintroduce Exandria Unlimited with an exciting new four-part adventure titled Divergence, set to premiere on February 13. This upcoming series will delve into the narrative of the Prime Deities departing the world of Exandria post-Calamity, offering fans a fresh perspective on the lore. The talented Brennan Lee Mulligan will take the helm as the dungeon master once again. The cast features notable players including Jasmine Don from Legend of Vox Machina, Alex Ward from Salem’s Lot, and Celia Rose Gooding from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, in addition to the Role co-creators Matt Mercer and Liam O’Brien, bringing together an impressive group of storytellers for this new chapter.
As we transition from the “Bells” conclusion to the launch of Divergence, Critical Role is embracing significant milestones as part of its 10-year anniversary celebrations. Although the future beyond Divergence remains uncertain, fans can take heart that this is merely a new beginning rather than an ending. In her announcement, creative director Marisha Ray assured audiences that more thrilling Actual Play stories are on the horizon, emphasizing, “the story continues with a simple turn of the page.” Her enthusiasm for the potential developments in this ongoing narrative, crafted by the incredible emergent storytellers, creates a sense of excitement for fans eager to see what unfolds next.
