The Brooklyn Nets‘ regular season got off to a rough start with a lopsided home loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, but the Nets rebounded with their first win of the season on Friday night against Toronto.
Kevin Durant (27) and Kyrie Irving (30) combined for 57 in a close game throughout, while Ben Simmons added six points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in 32 minutes of play. Steve Nash said after the game that Simmons was “starting to show the player he can be” for Brooklyn.
Pascal Siakam led all scorers with 37 points and every Raptors starter scored in double figures, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Nets, who held on for a 109-105 win.
Here’s what players and fans had to say after the game.
Kyrie Irving says he told Nic Claxton tonight, “If we’re not seeing you playing like that, offensively and defensively, then we’ve gotta hold you accountable.”

Kevin Durant shows love to Nets fans for giving a big home court advantage tonight:
“We get a bad wrap for our fans, saying we don’t got a lot, but I feel like every game that I’ve played since I’ve been here it’s been loud… I always hear Nets loud and clear.” pic.twitter.com/SxhD3Emc8u
