“The medical assessment provided to the Busch Family indicated that severe pneumonia advanced to sepsis, resulting in rapid and overwhelming complications,” the statement detailed. “The family requests continued understanding and privacy during this challenging time.”

Initially, the family had only disclosed that Busch died following hospitalization for a “severe illness.”

Busch’s final days were marked by a harrowing experience. 911 audio revealed he was found on a bathroom floor, coughing up blood prior to his hospitalization, according to reports from the California Post, as cited by the New York Post.

“I’ve got an individual who is short of breath, feeling very hot, thinks he’s going to pass out, and is coughing up a little blood,” a caller described to dispatch in the audio, as reported. “He’s conscious and currently on the bathroom floor.”

What Led to Kyle Busch’s Hospitalization?

Busch was hospitalized due to an undisclosed illness. His hospitalization seemed unexpected, especially as he was preparing for the May 24 Coca-Cola 600. Earlier that month, however, he had been heard on team radio discussing a “sinus cold” with the team doctor, as reported by USA Today.

In the days leading up to his death, Busch maintained an active presence on social media. He shared his final post two days before the announcement of his passing. In that post, he wished his son, Brexton, a “Happy Birthday” and posted a family photo.

“Happy Birthday Brexton!!! Your mom and I are so proud of the person you’re becoming!” Busch captioned the post, which included several pictures of his son. “You’re the best kid on and off the track, and you amaze us every day. Keep up the great work, and there’s no limit to what you can achieve! Love you, buddy!”
