In a lengthy and emotional diatribe posted on Truth Social this past Sunday, President Trump expressed his deep disappointment and frustration, portraying Musk as a confused and ungrateful figure who has gone “completely ‘off the rails.’” This public outburst marks a significant shift in their relationship, highlighting the personal nature of their fallout.
The trigger for Trump’s vehement condemnation was Musk’s recent launch of “The America Party,” a third-party initiative designed to disrupt the entrenched two-party system. For Trump, this move was not merely a political misstep; it was a personal affront from someone he had once supported, even when Musk’s actions left him perplexed and questioning.
“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks,” Trump lamented, framing Musk’s actions as a tragic decline rather than just a political disagreement. “I have campaigned on this for two years, and, quite honestly, when Elon Musk gave me his total and unquestioned endorsement, I asked him whether or not he knew that I was going to terminate the EV Mandate,” Trump recounted. “He said he had no problems with that – I was very surprised!” This exchange illustrates the complexity of their relationship and the misunderstandings that have arisen.
Trump’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” which he signed into law on July 4, notably eliminates a significant ,500 tax break for the purchase of new EVs, as well as a $4,000 tax credit for used ones, effective September 30.
