Epic Games has continuously sought to expand the reach of Fortnite, aiming to place it on every platform possible. With the upcoming release of the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s clear that Epic is committed to enhancing the gaming experience for players. The Switch 2 version of Fortnite is set to deliver significant graphical enhancements and performance upgrades, matching the capabilities seen on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Additionally, players will enjoy the innovative feature of mouse controls while using the new Joy-Con 2, which will bridge the gap between console and PC gaming, making the experience even more immersive.
With the integration of mouse controls, players can aim with precision using one or both Joy-Con 2 controllers, allowing for intuitive navigation through the user interface with a cursor. This revolutionary change transforms the console gaming experience, aligning it more closely with the familiar mechanics of Fortnite on PC. According to Epic, enabling mouse controls disables the right analog stick, allowing players to rotate their character effectively by using the selected Joy-Con 2 controller(s) as a mouse. The primary click action will be assigned to the ZR button, but if you opt for the left Joy-Con 2, you’ll have the flexibility to swap which analog stick manages movements, ensuring a tailored gaming experience.
While it’s challenging to predict how effectively mouse controls will enhance accuracy for Fortnite players on the Switch 2 without extensive testing, the benefits of the upgraded console version are clear. Fortnite on the Switch 2 is poised to run at an impressive 60 fps, delivering a stunning resolution of 2,176 x 1,224 when docked and 1,600 x 900 when undocked. Players can also expect greater view distances, sophisticated clothing physics, and access to Nintendo’s new GameChat social feature, which allows for seamless streaming of gameplay to friends, enhancing the overall community experience.
The best part? Fortnite remains completely free for all players. However, if you are lucky enough to secure a Nintendo Switch 2, it’s essential to delete your previous copy of Fortnite for Nintendo Switch after migrating your data from the old console to the new one. Remember that the enhanced graphical improvements and mouse control features are exclusive to the Switch 2 version of the game, which will be available for download directly from the Nintendo eShop starting June 5.
