YouTube has introduced an enhancement for its Connected TV viewing experience, allowing users to control their YouTube content directly from their mobile devices when watching on connected TVs.
This update simplifies interaction with YouTube, eliminating the need to rely on a traditional TV remote or gaming controller for navigating various features and options.
YouTube stated: “We’ve gathered feedback indicating that many users prefer watching YouTube on their TVs, but certain features like commenting, reading descriptions, or subscribing to channels can be challenging when using a standard remote. This update allows full engagement with features like comments and descriptions while enjoying uninterrupted content on your TV.”
The new app connectivity will provide synchronized access to features such as comments and likes. Users can also subscribe to channels while enjoying content on their TV screens.
YouTube users will be able to explore more aspects of the app while viewing content on their TVs. This means they can search for additional videos or enjoy Shorts. Users can also send videos directly to their TV from their homepage feed.
To do this, simply tap the three-dot menu next to any video title and select ‘Play on different device,’” YouTube explained.
Additionally, YouTube has announced that viewers no longer need to be on the same Wi-Fi network or manually connect their phones to their TVs to enjoy YouTube on both devices simultaneously.
Connected TV viewing has significantly boosted YouTube’s growth, with users now watching over a billion hours of YouTube content on their TVs each day.
In response to this trend, YouTube has consistently rolled out updates aimed at enhancing the Connected TV experience, including features like podcast viewing capabilities, channel locking controls, and TV-style stations that stream a continuous flow of videos from specific channels.
YouTube has also expanded access to its AI-driven search tools on smart TVs.
This functionality is accessible to smart TV users equipped with microphones in their remotes. this update will allow a much larger audience to benefit from these advanced features without needing the latest smart TV models.
