Vance Boelter, identified as the primary suspect in the tragic shooting of Minnesota State Senator Melissa Hortman and her husband, was apprehended by law enforcement late Sunday night after an extensive two-day manhunt that gripped the community.
Boelter, who was also involved in the shooting that left another Minnesota lawmaker and his wife injured, was captured in the rural area of Green Isle, Minnesota. His arrest was made possible when a vigilant officer noticed him fleeing into the nearby woods, prompting an immediate police response.

A local resident’s trail camera successfully captured an image of Boelter hiding in the forest, which subsequently alerted SWAT teams to converge on the area. Law enforcement utilized advanced infrared technology during their nighttime search, complemented by the deployment of drones and helicopters to ensure a thorough search of the vicinity.
Once Boelter was taken into custody, authorities promptly released a photograph depicting him in handcuffs, surrounded by law enforcement officers. Following his arrest, he was transported to Hennepin County Jail, where he was formally booked on charges of murder and attempted murder.
According to police reports, Boelter’s violent shooting spree commenced in the early hours of Saturday morning within the suburban areas surrounding Minneapolis, instigating widespread panic and fear among local residents.
Boelter is accused of fatally shooting Senator Hortman and her husband, while also targeting another Minnesota State Senator, John Hoffman, and his wife, who fortunately survived the harrowing incident.
During the horrifying attacks, Boelter allegedly impersonated a police officer by using a counterfeit badge and wearing a rubber mask. In a crucial moment, Hoffman’s daughter managed to contact 911, and when officers arrived on the scene, they engaged in a gunfight with Boelter as he attempted to flee, triggering what became known as the largest manhunt in Minnesota’s history.
Investigators are currently operating under the belief that Boelter acted independently during this brutal shooting spree. Authorities assert that he had a hit list consisting of 70 individuals, indicating that the potential for further violence existed had he not been apprehended. As of now, police have not disclosed any specific motive behind these heinous acts.
