The Microsoft Authenticator app is officially discontinuing its functionality for storing passwords. As of this month, users can no longer add or import new passwords into the app. This significant change will culminate in July 2025, when the ability to use the autofill feature with Authenticator will be completely removed. Furthermore, by August 2025, all passwords saved within the app will no longer be accessible. In addition, any payment information stored in Authenticator will be deleted after July 2025. Following this, all unsaved generated passwords will be removed in the following month. However, the good news is that passkeys will continue to be supported within the Authenticator platform.
For users who prefer to remain within the Microsoft ecosystem, there is an option to access saved passwords through the Edge browser. However, for those who do not wish to utilize Edge, it may be beneficial for Authenticator users to explore alternative password managers. Luckily, there are several high-quality and reliable options available that are not tied to any specific hardware provider, offering flexibility and security for your digital credentials.
