Experience the Magic of Disneyland Paris with the New Lion King Ride
In a recent video presentation aimed at shareholders, Bob Iger showcased the exciting expansions on the horizon for Disney Experiences, particularly highlighting a new Lion King log flume ride that will grace Disneyland Paris. This innovative attraction promises to take guests on an unforgettable journey alongside Simba as he evolves from a playful cub into a majestic lion, incorporating elements from both the animated classic and the stunning CG live-action adaptation.
“Last year, we announced our ambitious plans to significantly enhance growth in this sector through strategic investments. Today, I am thrilled to share some of our ongoing projects,” Iger stated. “Currently, we have more initiatives underway globally than at any point in our history.” He reaffirmed the company’s dedication to new developments, including attractions themed around Pixar’s Cars and Disney Villains at the Magic Kingdom, a new Monsters Inc.-themed area at Hollywood Studios, and a Tropical Americas land featuring attractions based on Encanto and Indiana Jones at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Additionally, guests can look forward to a captivating Coco boat ride and two new rides based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe at Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure.
Innovative Partnership Announced: Disney Imagineering Teams Up with NVIDIA for BDX Droid Enhancements
The Star Wars BDX droids, which have been captivating visitors at Galaxy’s Edge, are set to expand their adventures beyond the confines of the theme park. These droids will make their much-anticipated theatrical debut in Jon Favreau’s upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu next year. Following their appearance at SXSW, Imagineering unveiled an exciting partnership with NVIDIA aimed at enhancing the BDX droids’ capabilities through a collaboration with Disney Research. This initiative promises to create a more immersive experience for guests as they interact with these advanced droids.
“The BDX droids are just the beginning of our innovative journey. We are dedicated to bringing more characters to life in ways that the world has never witnessed before, and this partnership with Disney Research, NVIDIA, and Google DeepMind is integral to that vision,” shared Kyle Laughlin, Senior VP at Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development. “This collaboration will enable us to develop a new generation of robotic characters that are not only more expressive but also more engaging than ever before, allowing them to connect with our guests in uniquely Disney ways.” The technology aims to elevate Imagineering’s animatronic capabilities into the future with a groundbreaking system named Newton, described as “an open-source physics engine that empowers robots to learn how to perform complex tasks with enhanced precision.”
This development has sparked some intriguing thoughts, reminiscent of our Sarah Connor “robots bad!” moment, leading us to hope for a sentience kill switch to prevent any adorable Star Wars x Marvel Ultrons from going rogue. And naturally, if Walt Disney’s animatronic systems were to tap into this technology, things could get wildly entertaining, especially if they were to discover the unconventional adaptations of his beloved Mouse House intellectual properties by modern horror creators.
