In a news conference reported by Fox News on Monday, July 28, Sanders revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer during the offseason. This shocking announcement has shed light on the critical importance of regular health screenings and proactive medical care.

“Men, and everyone else, please get checked out. If I hadn’t been tested for something else, they wouldn’t have discovered this cancer. Ensure you receive the right medical care because without the amazing support from these professionals, I might not be here today; it progressed so quickly. So please, prioritize your health and get yourself checked,” he emphasized during the conference.

According to the medical team, including Colorado assistant athletic trainer Lauren Askevold and Dr. Janet Kukreja from UC Health, Sanders faced a serious diagnosis of bladder cancer. They provided further insights into the condition and the urgency of treatment.

“We proceeded with the removal of the bladder tumor. The tumor was classified as very high grade, which means it had invasive characteristics penetrating through the bladder wall but had not yet reached the muscle layer. We categorize this as high-risk non-invasive bladder cancer,” Askevold detailed.

Additionally, the medical professionals clarified that Sanders chose the route of bladder removal surgery, which also included the creation of a new bladder from his intestines. The positive news is that according to reports, Sanders is now cancer-free. However, he humorously noted that he “can’t pee like [he] he used to.”

During this poignant moment, Tran appeared emotional while addressing the camera.

“He just had his bladder removed, and they will create a new bladder using part of his intestines,” Tran explained. “This option was chosen because it fully removes the cancer to prevent its return, as it was dangerously close to his muscle.”
