Brentford have called for “strong support” after striker Ivan Toney was targeted with racist abuse on social media.
Toney posted a screenshot of a direct message following Brentford’s 2-0 win over Brighton, in which he scored both goals.
The striker has previously shared several incidents of racist abuse directed at him on social media platforms and said he “woke up angry” after being targeted on Friday night.
Brentford called for “strong support” in a statement on Saturday morning.
“Last night, Ivan Toney was subjected to disgusting, racist abuse via a direct message received on social media,” the statement read.
“We condemn this discriminatory behaviour in the strongest possible terms.
