On Tuesday, Instagram revealed significant enhancements to its School Partnerships program that include expanded school information hubs and new contributions from students.
The initiative, launched in March 2025, aims to provide educators with a direct method to report potential safety issues to Instagram.
This reporting system prioritizes safety reports from approved contributors, ensuring a more efficient process for those with direct interactions with young users.
According to Instagram, nearly 17,000 schools have partnered with the platform on this initiative. Following feedback from initial participants, additional features are being introduced to enhance awareness.
Instagram will introduce new in-app hubs for school-related accounts, aimed at broadening the reach of important messages.

Instagram stated: “This will enhance schools’ ability to connect with students, ensuring that students remain safe and well-informed on Instagram.”
Schools involved in the program can now access channels, School Stories, and Notes, alongside prioritized reporting tools and extra resources to assist educators, parents, guardians, and students.
Instagram is also introducing verified student features, providing approved student contributors with access to similar connection tools and alert functions to highlight potential issues.

The app has also rolled out student banners and directories designed to promote connections among classmates.
“Students will have access to a directory of peers from their school and can create a school banner,” Instagram noted. “This feature is exclusively visible to other students and teen followers they follow back.”
The platform’s parent company, Meta, has collaborated with Unidays to verify high school students before they can join their official school communities, ensuring the safety of these groups for users.
It is noteworthy that Instagram is enhancing student safety features while facing allegations regarding its effects on teenagers. Many argue that it contributes negatively to the well-being of adolescents..
Instagram is facing usage restrictions for teens in various regions due to increasing concerns that the platform, along with other social media, is having harmful effects on younger demographics.
By implementing these enhanced safety measures, Meta aims to address these issues and provide greater reassurance to parents.
