The TikTok Trend That Preceded Influencer Sara Gilson’s Untimely Death

On July 11, Sara Gilson participated in a trending TikTok challenge inspired by popular Netflix documentaries. This trend invites users to create a fictional docuseries pitch in which they describe their lives and experiences. In her video, Gilson made shocking claims about her husband, describing him as a pedophile.

“Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon-to-be ex-husband who I just found out is a pedophile,” the 43-year-old stated in her video.

Her caption added an unsettling note: “I wish I was joking.” Following the news of her death, her video has garnered more than 10.2 million views, with over 24,000 comments reflecting widespread reactions.

According to KTUL, on Thursday, July 23, Jeremiah ‘Shawn’ Duffey shot and killed Sara in their Owasso, Oklahoma residence. Authorities discovered her body with multiple gunshot wounds after a child residing in the home called 911. Fortunately, the child was unharmed during the incident.

Police arrived shortly after 11 p.m. It is believed that after shooting his wife, Duffey took his own life. A family member informed KTLA that Duffey had forcibly entered the home prior to the murder-suicide.

Influencer Secured Protective Order Against Estranged Husband Prior to TikTok Video

Documents reviewed by PEOPLE reveal that Sara and Jeremiah Gilson had experienced significant turmoil in their relationship long before this tragic event. In 2021, she filed two protective orders against him, but both were dismissed when she failed to appear in court. on June 10, Sara successfully obtained an emergency protective order, mandating that Duffey remain at least 100 yards away from her. He was also ordered to vacate their shared residence. Just days later, on June 23, the court extended this order until August 24.

Another woman filed a protective order against Duffey on the same day, citing concerns for her minor daughter. This order was also granted and subsequently extended through August 24. The girl, a 15-year-old, was reportedly coached by Duffey in basketball and alleged that he had kissed and inappropriately touched her before being caught by another coach.
