Last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live showcased an exciting showdown between iconic video games.
During the Weekend Update segment, co-host Colin Jost highlighted that the anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI is so significant that it has compelled other video game developers to postpone their release dates to avoid being overshadowed by its launch on November 19. The only title still vying for attention is Nintendo’s highly anticipated remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, set to release on November 5.
To delve into the competitive release timelines, Jost brought out the main characters from both games: Jason from GTA VI (played by Marcello Hernandez) and Link from The Legend of Zelda (portrayed by Mikey Day) to the Weekend Update desk. This segment resembled their previous emoji sketch from last season, where Hernandez’s character humorously critiqued Day’s portrayal of the Aerial Tramway. Day responded with increasingly hilarious attempts to outwit Hernandez.
The humor remained consistent, but with a fresh twist. As Jason, Hernandez enthusiastically promoted the thrilling aspects of GTA VI, claiming it features “destruction, chaos, and sex.”
He playfully dubbed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as TMPNG: Too Many Puzzles, No Guns.
On the other hand, Day’s Link attempted to persuade the audience about the engaging puzzles, light combat, and magical fairy bottles in The Legend of Zelda. With every jab from Jason, Link grew increasingly animated and defensive, leading to a comical back-and-forth. Watch the lively exchange above, and decide whether you’ll journey to Hyrule or explore Vice City this November.
