From 2011 to 2017, dedicated fans of Game of Thrones eagerly anticipated the arrival of new seasons each year. However, the final season took longer than expected, culminating in a highly debated conclusion in 2019. The excitement reignited in 2022 with the premiere of House of the Dragon, but it wasn’t until this year’s release of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms that the magic of Westeros felt truly alive again. Warner Bros. is keen to harness this renewed enthusiasm.
During the Variety Entertainment Marketing Summit (as reported by IGN), Shauna Spenley, the chief marketing officer at Warner Bros., shared insights into the studio’s plans and perspectives.
“Game of Thrones represents an extraordinary intellectual property that appears boundless,” Spenley articulated. “Just a few months ago, Knight of the Seven Kingdoms experienced immense global popularity, demonstrating the significant demand for this franchise. I am quite confident that our upcoming theatrical project will meet similar expectations. Additionally, House of the Dragon is set to return this summer.”
Spenley elaborated further, stating, “Currently, there seems to be a loyal audience with long-term expectations. Viewers are accustomed to regular releases and desire not to wait several years between each new installment.”
Fortunately, preparations are already underway. According to the executive, House of the Dragon season three is on the horizon, while A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season two is scheduled for next year, contingent on favorable weather conditions. Furthermore, a Game of Thrones film centered around Aegon’s Conquest is also in its initial planning stages.
Does this indicate that fans can soon expect formal announcements regarding more Game of Thrones spin-off series? There are numerous potential stories to explore if that is indeed the case. We would be absolutely thrilled to see a confirmed third season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms if Warner Bros. is open to fan suggestions.
