EU Officials Told to Remove TikTok From Official Devices Due to Security Concerns

Extra dangerous information for TikTok, with EU IT officers calling for Authorities workers to take away the app from their gadgets, citing safety considerations.

As reported by Euractiv:

“The EU govt’s IT service has requested all Fee workers to uninstall TikTok from their company gadgets, in addition to the private gadgets utilizing company apps, citing information safety considerations.”

It’s the primary massive transfer in opposition to TikTok in Europe, and follows related warnings and actions taken in US states, the place many regional governments have banned the app on official gadgets.

TikTok can be below investigation by the White Home which might result in a potential nationwide ban, with the FBI and the FCC each recommending the app be faraway from US app shops as a result of considerations that the corporate may very well be sharing info on US residents with the Chinese language Authorities.

TikTok has repeatedly denied that it has, or will share info with the CCP, however an investigation late final 12 months did uncover workers from TikTok’s father or mother firm ByteDance utilizing TikTok info to trace contacts of US journalists.

Amid ongoing tensions with China, TikTok may very well be caught within the center, and it appears inevitable that, at some stage, the US Authorities might want to make a name on the app, a method or one other, that might see it banned or restricted within the US.

Including Europe into the combo expands the considerations, and it logically follows that if the US bans TikTok, many different western nations can even comply with swimsuit, in step with safety considerations.

TikTok’s nonetheless engaged on a deal to separate US consumer information from China, and if I needed to guess, that does look like that would be the extra doubtless consequence, given the billions in potential income on the road. If the US strikes to ban the app, ByteDance might look to promote TikTok to a US proprietor, because it did when former President Donald Trump sought to ban the app in 2020.

Will that appease EU considerations too? We’ll have to attend and see, nevertheless it does look like TikTok’s day of reckoning is coming, someday quickly.
