While it may seem unnecessary at first glance, especially since Reels usually last only about a minute, this feature gains significance with Instagram’s recent extension of Reels to a maximum length of 3 minutes. This change allows for a broader variety of content, making the option to view at double speed quite useful for those who prefer to consume videos quickly.
As noted, the demand for this feature has been strong among users, indicating a desire for greater flexibility and control over how they engage with video content on the platform. To activate the 2x speed feature while watching a Reel, simply long-press on either the right or left edge of the screen during playback. The video will seamlessly transition to 2x speed, allowing you to consume content more efficiently until you release your hold.
Currently, there are no additional playback speed options available, meaning users can only choose between the standard playback and the new 2x speed. However, the ability to skim through content remains available, enabling viewers to quickly jump to key moments in the video.
